LEAD1 Byte of the Week: Spring Meeting Recap

We hosted the LEAD1 spring meeting in Orlando this week and discussed important issues in college sports, including the complexity of NIL and the recently adopted NCAA attestation and certification of compliance obligations.

Yesterday we hosted our spring meeting in Orlando. It was our first member meeting of the year; our fall meeting will be held in Washington in September.

At our meeting, we discussed two very important issues in college sports – student-athlete issues of name, image and likeness, and the recently adopted NCAA attestation and certification of compliance obligations.

NCAA General Counsel Scott Bearby addressed our members and discussed the complexity of name, image and likeness. Division I Director Jenn Fraser provided updates on the NCAA’s accountability efforts. Athletics departments that are not in compliance with the new attestation requirement, which goes into effect August 1, will be subject to stiff penalties.

We also discussed updates to our air charter program, which recently expanded and added dedicated aircraft. Our new partnership with GoGround was also introduced. GoGround will provide bus service to LEAD1 member schools and their alumni and fans at a discounted rate.

All in all, it was a very good meeting and we look forward to our next big event in July, the LEAD1 Institute.
